As our junior mentor manager, Madison leverages her previous experience as a crisis text line counselor, youth tutor, lifeguard, and three-year Surfrider mentor. She guides our Junior Mentors in running Surfari events, leads them during sessions, coordinates opportunities for them to participate in new activities, and works closely with Trent and Sam on administrative tasks.
Madison is a pre-medical student at UHM applying to JABSOM this year, with the goal of becoming a surgeon. She currently interns as a Health Scholar at Adventist Health Castle in the x-ray/imaging department. She has her Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Biology with minors in Psychology and Creative Expression & Society from the University of Toronto.
When she’s not studying, volunteering, or rallying our Junior Mentors, Madison is an avid fiction reader and writer. Despite her busy schedule, she always makes time to be in the ocean as much as possible. Uncle Sam taught her to surf on Waikiki Beach when she was seven, and she’s so grateful to now have the opportunity to work alongside him, teaching youth how to catch waves.
Madison’s certifications include:
HIPAA Awareness and Security certification
Lifeguarding and CPR Certifications from Ellis & Associates
Crisis Counselor at Crisis Text Line USA
CPR, AED, Lifeguarding, & First Aid from the American Red Cross.
